023 - A Flock of Flying Geese Units for a Quilt

021 - Flock of Flying Geese (Quilt Units)

Inspiration

single "goose"While brainstorming the theme of feathers, as a quilter, I thought of these Flying Geese, a design element found in traditional quilts. Typical proportions of an individual flying geese unit are twice as wide as they are tall.

Quilters refer to the small triangles as the "sky" and the large one as the "goose."

Details

These flying geese units are 2 inches tall and 4 inches wide.  My geese are made from black and white prints, with turquoise sky.

All but one of the 73 "geese" were made using a 4-at-once, no waste method.  The single flying geese unit leading the pack was made from the method of making one Flying Geese (FG) unit at a time with 2 bonus triangles.  For directions to make some flying geese of your own, check out my tip sheet on the Tips and Tutorials page on my Sophie Junction blog.

These black and white geese will be used in the baby crib quilt being made from the bird blocks.

  2. I'm looking forward to seeing what these become. I did like your red feather, too. It looks like such a little shrimp next to the blue one. =)
